COOL THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND ARCATA

We're happy that our festival seems to be enjoyable even for those who aren't directly involved with Belly Dancing! For kids, we have a great playground right outside the community center doors where our festival is located. For signifiant others there is so much to enjoy in our area. Here are just a few things that might make your voyage to Arcata even better:

SEE AMAZING PASTEL ART ON ARCATA'S DOWNTOWN PLAZA

The first Saturday in October is Pastels on the Plaza in downtown Arcata. An easy five-ten minute walk from the Community Center will take you to the Plaza where artists work all day on pastel squares advertising local businesses to benefit a children's organization. It's fun to watch them work early on Saturday (and enjoy our Farmer's Market) or come in the afternoon or on Sunday to take a stroll around to see the art.

ARTS ALIVE! IN EUREKA

The first Saturday of every month is Arts Alive! where the Old Town district of Eureka has many gallery openings, live music and other fun happenings. For the October Arts Alive! our parent organization, the Ink People, has a really cool show called Maskibition, an incredible annual showcase of masks. The opening usually has performances and entertainment.

TAKE A WALK IN A REDWOOD FOREST

Arcata has a wonderful Redwood Park that has a playground, open field, and an excellent low/moderate intensity hike with trails through our beautiful community forest. It's really easy to get to. The community center street is off of Union Street. If you take Union Street north (further away from the freeway) and turn right onto 14th Street it'll take you right up to the park.

VISIT MOONSTONE BEACH
A little north of Arcata on Highway 101 you'll find the tiny seaport town of Trinidad. Right before you get to Trinidad there's an exit for Westhaven. If you follow the signs you can easily get to Moonstone Beach, one of our most lovely and easy-to-access beaches on the North Coast.

VISIT THE VICTORIAN VILLAGE OF FERNDALE

Ferndale is about 35 minutes from Arcata. Go south on 101 then take an exit in between Eureka and Fortuna and drive a bit to come to the quaint and lovely village of Ferndale. Lovely stores, gorgeous Victorian homes... be sure to check out the Gingerbread House!
